I. Employment rights

Q: Can I work in Taiwan?

If you are married to a citizen who has a registered household in the Republic of China and you have been granted residency, you can work in Taiwan without applying for a work permit.
If the National Immigration Agency of the Ministry of the Interior has issued you after September 16, 2011, an IC alien resident certificate for a foreign spouse, a resident certificate for dependent spouse from Mainland China area, or a long-term resident certificate that shows the words “The holder of this certificate may work without applying for a work permit.” in Chinese.

Q: If I want to work in Taiwan, what do I need to look out for to safeguard my rights?

Beginning May 1, 2009, if you can legally work in Taiwan, employment insurance can be applied to you and the new labor pension system can be applied to you on January 17^th, 2014.
Whether you are a spouse from the Mainland China area or a foreign country, the time period in which you can work is determined by the validity of the resident certificate. In other words, if your resident certificate is valid, your employment right is valid.

Q：What employment services does the New Taipei City government offer?

A：The following employment services and measures are made available:

1.   A service desk provides information and counseling on employment and vocational training.
2.   Recommendations for employment or vocational training to improve employment skills.
3.   Conduct vocational training priority classes for new immigrants to improve their employment skills and preparedness.
4.   Provide transportation subsidies for job searches.
5.   Accompany new immigrants to job interviews and provide interpretation service.
6.   Hold career facilitation workshops to become familiar with the job market.
7.   Use employment bonus subsidies to entice employers to hire new immigrants.
8.   Provide counseling, seminars, assistance, and loans on or for starting a business.
9.   If necessary, refer new immigrants to other social welfare or medical facilities.
